FAULTS is the improvising quartet of Jorge Bachmann, Kevin Corcoran, Jaroba, and Gabby Wen. The group works with electronics, percussion, reeds, and guqin, expanding to include other collaborators in dance movement (Pei-Ling Kao) and visual projections (Andrej Hronco).

Faults practice involves site specificity where live performances and recordings have occurred in disused bunkers on a decommissioned naval base, in a columbarium, among boulders in the desert, inside a furniture store, on a rocky shoreline of the Pacific coast, under freeway overpasses, and in a residential garden. Interaction with the incidental sounds in these environments informs the quartet’s approach to timbre, tonality, space, and extended technique. Each member works variably with acoustic instrumentation, electronics, and field recordings.

The quartet’s sound oscillates between quiet and loud, sparse and dense, weaving together textural noise, drone, floating melodic lines, and bristling percussive elements. The result is a rich and readily shifting electroacoustic dynamic.
